PETGasus

PETGasus is a small quadcopter with a duct around each propeller. You print the frame on a 3D printer. The other parts connect with plugs and screws. No soldering is necessary.

Values and Limits

Each bar shows a value of the design. The black mark shows the limit. Light gray shows the satisfactory range. Dark gray shows the unsatisfactory range.

Frame Design

A stiffer frame vibrates less, but more plastic increases the mass. A topology optimizer calculated where the plastic gives the most stiffness. The inputs were the positions of the motors, the ducts and the flight controller.

Plate, 2 mm thick Rib, 5 mm high. The ribs give most of the stiffness. Ducts, motor seats and center plate. These are the same in each version. Optimizer output. A darker color shows more plastic.

Hardware Tests

The automated checks use a model of the drone. These five tests examine the real drone.

Assumptions

No published data exists for these six values. The design uses an estimate for each value until a measurement replaces it.
